“27 Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ.
29 For it has been granted to you in behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him but also to suffer for Him.”
Philippians 1:27, 29
Now that’s a little bit scary. It has been granted? Meaning it will surely happen, so don’t give a surprised look, okay?! Paul is quite straightforward here. He does not sugar-coat the truth. He tells to your face that: “Hey, in this Christian life, it is not always believing and having faith, there will be a lot of sufferings. AS.IN.A.LOT. It’s not always “miracle-happenings-and-good-things” here. You’ll see, as you follow Christ and do what He does and share His good news to others, they won’t like it. Some will hate you and do terrible things against you. But whatever happens, don’t mess up. Be worthy of the Gospel. Stick to the truth, live up to the principles you learned from us, okay?” That’s terrible, isn’t it? But that’s the truth. Shall we be afraid? No! If God is for us, who can be against us? But we shall do our homework and cultivate characters that lasts through testing and trials. Be willing to go through the Refiner’s fire. No place better than His.
